The Special Ones

We are blessed to see many wonderful dogs come and go through our adoption program.  Every one of them is special in their own way, but today we have several great dogs who haven't found homes solely because of special medical needs.

To encourage their adoption, we have begun including medical vouchers to help offset the cost of caring for them.  In this difficult economy perhaps people just need a little help convince them to open their homes to these extra-special dogs.

Please read their stories.  They have a lot of love to give and would be so very grateful you saw past their medical needs to provide that forever home they each deserve.

Shiloh

beagleThis one is hard to view.  Please brace yourselves.  A dog was dumped / wandered into the yard of a known animal advocate.  He is a totally sweet beagle boy.  He was bloody from a traumatic head injury that has been treated although he remains a sight with drainage tubes in his head.  It is the vet's assessment this dog was hit in the head by the claw end of a hammer ... horrible to imagine .. yet he survived.  Our plea for help worked and Shiloh is now in a foster home willing to give him some TLC during his recovery.

Rocky

rockyGlad to meet you, I'm Rocky.  My life really was rocky for a while.  I lost one of my legs in a car accident and then my family turned me in to the Humane Society.  I was scared.  The people didn't know they weren't supposed to touch my other leg.  It still hurt a lot.  I didn't want to be mean, but I had to growl to let them know when it hurt.  Pretty quick, they figured out what was wrong and got me the medicine I need to feel good again.  Now I never have to growl at all!  I can be nice and friendly and snuggle all the time with no pain.  My medicine is very affordable, but if that is all that is holding you back from adopting me, the Humane Society can whip up one of those magic vouchers for my adoption package, too.

Sammy

sammy1Hi, I am Sammy, Sammy I am.  I love life and love the people around me.  When I was younger, I got fussed at for having too many accidents and ended up at the pound.  The Humane Society came to get me.  They found out I have diabetes insipidus.  That's why it was so hard not to have accidents!  I was so happy to learn I'm not a bad dog.  Now that I have my little pills, I am a good boy in the house.  But my medicine is kind of expensive.  There is a voucher in my adoption package that promises the Humane Society will provide my medicine when someone adopts me.  What a great idea!

Rusty

rusty1I'm Rusty.  My approach to life is mellow and easy.  My grey muzzle makes people think I am older than the age on my paperwork.  The world looks cloudy and fuzzy to me sometimes.  I've been told I have cataracts in both my eyes.  The Humane Society raised money so I can have my eyesight clear again, but the doctor wants to wait until the cataracts have reached the next stage before doing surgery.  There is a voucher to cover in my adoption package that promises to pay for my eye surgery with "Rusty's Fund" when the time is right.

Shaky Shiloh
Shiloh is a handsome German Shepherd Dog, only 3 years old. Shiloh was rescued from outdoor pen conditions that were clean but lonely. We learned he has severe dysplasia and needs expensive hip replacement surgery before he is adoptable. Please consider donating toward his surgery so he can find a forever home.

Update from our President, Lisa Leonard:
Thank you to everyone who donated to Shiloh for his hip problems.  With the funds, we were able to get the expensive diagnostics required by specialists.  Unfortunately, we learned his hip and spinal abnormalities are so extensive, surgery to correct it all is cost prohibitive at over twelve thousand dollars.  Shiloh will remain in our care as a permanent foster.  He is kept comfortable with pain and anti-inflammatory medication and he is very much loved by his foster family.  His quality of life remains good.
